My lovely Tesco delivery man has just brought my groceries. I live on a slight hill and it is somewhat icy. Yesterday it was snowy but not icy and the dustmen didn't arrive; ditto the recycling chappies today. The main roads are clear. If Tesco can manage it why can't our councils?

the dustmen will most likely be helping keep the roads open, like they are up here

Sorry to hear that craft. I'd send you up a food parcel but the posties aren't working.
Yes the binmen are clearing the streets of snow here too.
Theyn did work Tiger but one thing I found out very suddenly was that you can't have them on on normal ground. I nearly went flying as I walked into the underground car park!
We've had snow this year and last, but when was the weather like this before that? If the council went out and blew half their budget on snowploughs, chains for tyres etc, everyone would be up in arms at the waste of money. We don't get conditions like this very often so it's not really justified expenditure - and has nothing to do with pension funds! I think they're doing bl00dy well in difficult circumstances. They can't possibly be expected to keep every lane and cul-de-sac clear - there aren't enough hours in the day. If people are that bothered then they are perfectly capable of picking up a shovel and getting stuck in themselves.
The man that drives the dustcart is probably too busy gritting your main roads, maybe?

Binmen finish at noon on Fridays.
as others have said, in some areas binmen are being diverted to gritting roads instead.

So your Tescos deliveries can get through.
