raw file / 1 file

After taking photos in the RAW file format (canon) I wrote them to a cd. When trying to view them they will not open and the files have 1 FILE as the file type? The photos were not altered when written to the cd just saved in their original form. Anyone have any ideas how to view them or restore to RAW FILES?

I am assuming before trying to open them in Photoshop or similar, you are converting them using a RAW converter, right?

fo3nix - conversion is not necessarily required. Current applications (such as Photoshop CS2) support RAW. It is now also supported in XP.

yes I realise thism but 1) not sure what system he's running, and 2) other programs still have their uses, especially if you dont have cs2

The file type indicates which application has been registered to open the file. Do the copied files still have the original extension (probably .CRW or .CR2)?

The files copied to the cd do not have a CR extention. When the cd is viewed under details the file type is 1 file. I use CS 1 and only recently loaded a plug in which now allows RAW to be viewed, however it doesn't recognise the copied files. I down loaded the link from Kempie

Continuation - I downloaded the link from Kempie, still getting the message could not complete ........ not right type of document. I still don't know what has happened to the file when it was written or if this 1 file is a legitimate extention or readable.Thank you for your help this far.

I think I may have found the origin of my problem. When writing the files to cd to differentiate between the same image in RAW and jpeg I named the files and added .1 after the file name on the RAW image. How do I reverse or correct this mistake?
