Yesterday I had a phone call from an Indian sounding man who wanted me to confirm who I was and went on to say he was representing 'microsoft' and said he was asking me to check my computer as I may have been infected by a new virus........at that point I put the phone down because I thought it was ODD.
Today same thing, it was very noisy sounded like a call centre, this time he told me to sit at computer with windows screensaver (my PC was turned off) and tell him what I saw in bottom left hand corner.......I thought this odd again & put phone down. It rang 3 - 4 times afterwards but I left it.
What I want to know has anyone else had these phone calls, where they know your name?
Who are these people & what do they want & to be soo persistant.
I've had 'Microsoft and Windows for 10 years yet never had a call like that before.
My daughter seems to think it was a scam - what do you think?
I've a fairly unusual, and can be difficult surname for foreigners, to pronounce. Listening to them desperately trying to say it, often 4 or 5 variations of it, is hysterical.
tis if you're not English speaking Chuck, believe me, i've heard the variations.
When Mini Boo was just starting to babble as a baby, i used to pass the phone to her to "chat" to them. The selfish buggers always hung up on her though :-(
I had a call a couple of days ago from someone with an Indian accent saying 'it's about computers'. I put the phone down. I always put the phone down. I never talk to any of these people.
They will ask you to go to a web site which allows them to control your computer remotely.
While they persuade you that something is wrong with your computer, they will also install spyware which will send them bank details, passwords and so on.
">>>Starbuckone - "I that ruling applies to you Naz, then why not to the scammers. Surely they are misusing the public telecommunications service, even more."
Ah, but you missed the most obvious part where I really dgaf. LOOOL xx
pixi, - I don't know, as I said I was not on the pc at the time. but looking now 'Nothing'
Unfortunately my surname is easy, one sylable, but not guessable. (I hope)
