Volvo XC90

My car is not a happy chappy and we are thinking of changing it after Christmas. My husband has suggested a Volvo XC90 - but just how practical is it as a 7 seater? I only use it for short journeys (sp?) and don't use all of the seats all of the time but do need at least 6 seats (7 if my husband is with me). Any opinions would be useful, thanks.
