Digital TV Aerial info needed

Hi everyone
We're buying my mother a small Freeview TV for her bedroom for Christmas. My parents don't have a digitial aerial on the roof, they have Sky on the TV in their lounge. They can't afford to pay for Sky Multiroom, besides which my Mum will only watch the odd programme from time to time so it wouldn't be worth the money.

Will they need to sort out a digital aerial to go on the roof to enable her new TV to work, or is there an indoor digital aerial that will do the job?

have they got a standard aerial on the roof at all? This may be good enough to pick up a signal for the freeview

or have they considered freesat?

There is no such thing as a digital aerial. I would see what reception is like on the extg one before forking out for a better one.

it people conning folk with all this digital aerial crap there's no such thing as count said, if your "normal" aerial is in good nick that's what is used for digital freeview,buy a cheap digi box around £15-20 if it dont work with out an aerial upgrade and your not that bothered about freeview take the digi box back to (argos / asda for a refund say its not suitable providing you take it back with all the box contents, and dont ripped the box open

They do not need to pay for a second Sky subscription.

They can get a second Sky box provided with a “Freesat” card, their receptor in their Sky dish adapted to serve up to four boxes, all installed and working for a one-off payment of (I think) about £85. (You’d need to check the price, that was how much it was when I last looked).

This is probably what a new aerial would cost you, and you get a far greater variety of channels than with Freeview.

Thank you New Judge. I'll investigate that. I think the multiroom option would have been the best choice and would only be another £10 a month on top of their existing Sky Subs, but for some reason my mother says she doesn't want to pay that because of the limited use it'll get, hence the reason we've looked at other options. My sister and I think this way of going about things is daft... but as we all know 'mothers are always right'!

Depending on your parents ages or circumstances they could get help with having an aerial fitted and getting a freeview box. Click on the link below and see if they are in one of the Groups, it could save you a few quid. It's worth having a look.
