Concerns over the new college

I like how at every meeting about the new college that's being built people have asked 'will it be finished on time' and it's the question on the top of the list of frequently asked questions on the website. Yet I heard, 2 months after they started building, they were already 2 weeks behind, although i'm not sure if they've made that time up yet or not, or if they're even more behind now . . . .What do you think the chances of it being built by May are, considering they have to have the roof on before winter sets in to be able to do the inside, and we've already had bad snow, and the roof's not on yet?

Molly I have been personally involved -on a really small domestic scale - and each time I enforced a time penalty which each contractor was happy to go along with.That way he kicked arse when needed and I got the work done on time -happy all round.
I would be very surpised on commercial premises they dont have a time penalty -so the contractors will be eager to get this finished as soon as possible as after each day its costing them a helluva lot of money.

That sounds a fair timetable molly, they hope to take over the site in time to equip for the autumn term. Most contracts are subject to some delays but they often catch up during the better weather.

The weathers only getting worse though. there's even a time lapse video on the website, they seemed to do a lot of faffing around doing nothing for a couple of months, laying the foundations.

Plus they need to find teachers to work there. So far I only know of a couple form the high schools that say they will move. So if you're a qualified a-level teacher looking for a job, there's plenty around morth/east suffolk.

I can assure you they will be on a penalty -so it will be finished rather than later -trust me.No-one can afford to work for nothing nowadays especially in the building trade during the winter.
No ifs buts or maybes -i have family in the business and as I said I have personal experience and they cant afford to delay any contract nowadays neither can men afford to be laid off like my dad used to be during the winter.Take it as read Molly.

Soons as the roads in Poland permit you will be inundated with EE workers making up the shortfall to get the works completed in good time.

nb shore up your neighborhood as once there they will stay & outdo local artisans for work.

why are you asking if it will be open May when they are talking of a September 11 opening anyway?

They promised us it would be finished in may, ready to open in September.

Not really red. The BUILDING works will finish in May and then the internal fit-out will commence. I have worked in a construction related industry fro the last 20 years and of all the hundreds of projects I've dealt with about 10% finish on time. Penalty clauses are notoriously difficult to enforce in law.

from this, Count, i took it to mean that the inside would be completed in the term "built"

Mmm, bit of a vauge term 'to do'. Could just mean get the walls up after which all the M&E, joinery and finishes works will have to be carried out. On the other jhand it could mean finished but why complete something in May when it's not to be opened till Sept?

I think they're aiming to finish all structural work by may, then take a month or two, to decorate it and put in stuff like desks, chairs and lockers.

But they need the exterior fiished including the roof before winter sets in . . .which it kind of has, but there hasn't been snow for a week now.
