Once biten if you elect to be garlic free.. Try plain old Germolene. I always carried a tube in my rations bag.
Since flea and mosquito bites trigger the formation of histamines (which causes the itching), the best way to treat them is by using antihistamine creams or tablets.
Also, please remember that we've all got an excellent free source of information for things like this - the local pharmacist. Within the areas in which they work, pharmacists are far better qualified than any doctors to give advice. (Their training in the effects of creams, tablets, etc is far more extensive than doctors get). Pharmacists are a much under-used resource. (I've not consulted a doctor for over 20 years but I've had blood-pressure checks, blood sugar checks, cholesterol checks and loads of advice from pharmacists).

Whilst in Cuba in May i had over 100 bites and was quite seriously ill for a couple of days, the med centre told me their mozzies love the english repellent so use their local one, also, when i got back, loads of people told me to get some stuff from health food shop, i think it was vitamin b12 or something, as a mozzie licks your skin first and they don't like the taste of this stuff, or it might have been zinc, can't remmebr now!
