Just as an aside, this is the second time in just over a year that the notes on my copy of the discharge papers have conflicted with those sent to the GP/other hospitals. The first said I was being referred to a different hospital for a liver resection. The other hospital had no knowledge of this and after a scan said I needed a cholecysectomy. My discharge papers form the second hospital recorded the cholecysectomy plus removal of a liver cyst. When I went back for a check up I told the surgeon that I presumed he had found the cyst when he opened me up so decided to remove it. He expressed amazement, saying no such thing had been done.
In both cases the discharge notes were written up by an auxiliary nurse. No harm has been done, but it makes me wonder. I have always had implicit faith in the medical profession.
