And I am getting email after email about this and that Christmas drinks which are all 80 odd miles away so if I can be arsed to go I have to drink orange juice.

I quite like it all at the moment because the kids are still young enough - think this will be the last year of "santa" though so i gues it goes downhill from here. problem just now is the stress of trying to get organised when there are parcel delivery problems and have only managed to get the car out of the drive twice in last 2 weeks and on one of those times I got stuck trying to park so had to go home again :o(

There is a large shop just round the corner from me which has Christmas goods on sale all year round.
I like to walk in July and then again in mid-November and ask the prices of the artificial Christmas Trees (they have no price-labels but an enquiry sends a staff-member scuttling off to get the price-folder) and note them down in my litle book.
About this time in December, when they have the 'Sale' and 'Reduced to half-price' signs everywhere I like to wander back in and repeat the same performance.
This time accompanied by loud comments of "Crikey ! I should have bought it in July when it was only half your sale price..........." making sure that everyone within the shop can hear me.

being made to feel as if you're anti-social if you don't have a million social engagements between the end of november and middle of january.
trying to think up reasonably plausible reasons for not going to all the social engagements.
in the past, going to 'christmas' dinner dance things and being expected to do the conga or some other daft dance to 'i am the music man', the alternative being you're the only person still sitting at the table.
we now do none of the above. if we're invited, we go if we want to, not because we're expected to and don't give a stuff what anyone thinks.
roll on 1st january.
