programs on start up

I'm sorry if this seems like a double posting it is not intended to be, it is that i've just realised I posted this in the wrong section so here it is again.


Hi, this may be obvious to most people but I am still finding my way around computers,
anyway I am running Windows XP and on booting up several programs appear in the
"Bottom" task bar which presumably means they are loaded on start up, as there are several that are not needed on starting how do I remove them from the start up list?
