Wassail Cup
5 Answers
Could this be made say the day before then heated on the day? or do you think it would alter the taste. Or at least could I bake the apples the day before or would they not be nice the following day? Any tips would be helpful as I don't really want to get up really early to make this from scratch as I leave the house at 8.30am.

i'd never even thought of what wassail cup actually was until now and i've just looked up some recipes. i'd think you could do the apple bit the day before, or do you think it would go brown?? cooked apple doesn't go brown i think (apple puree for instance, or left over apple crumble) so i'm pretty sure it wouldn't. sounds an interesting punch what with toast floating in it, have you had it before?
(ps. how're you doing?)

Hi ethandron. Doing OK thank you but it'll take some getting used to. There are bad days but also not so bad days so just taking each day as it comes. Christmas is looming (coming over to UK) and I give an end of morning party to my students, after lessons, this week hence the wassail cup (I try to do something different each year). Yes, I think I'll give the apples a bash the day before and maybe cover them with a bottle of ale, then add all the rest the next morning. My recipe doesn't have toast floating in it - that would put my french students off I'm sure!!!
Thanks for your concern, very much appreciated.

coccinelle, i know you don't like fuss and fully appreciate your feelings. just want you to know that i do think of you from time to time and what with christmas looming...
hope the wassail cup goes down a treat with your french students, what a very british thing to give them. personally, i'd go for the floating toast too, in for a penny, in for a pound (rather than a euro).
all the very best to you madam ladybird :o)
