I've recently moved into a house, which i am renting.
The carpets are red, but have faded so much, they are nearly a dirty white colour!
I got someone in to clean them to see if it would make it any better, but made no difference atall..!!
Should my landlord replace the carpets or should I???
Also...
The washing machine is buggered, i opened the door of it, and it came off, Do I replace the washing machine, or should me landlord??

Milly - she's in Ireland. They tend to be a bit more laid back about these things..

Claireeno -if its any consolation when i moved into my first flat the carpet was an off cut thrown in the middle of the floor with 2ft gaps all round. It was baltic -just a coal fire but know what we were happy and it made us determined that the only way was up.
Practically see the LL -ask him to recify -if he wont (think he will) then dont sign it.
My daughter went to view a flat -she looked around the lounge kitchen bathroom and went to open another door to se the bedroom only to find it was fake and they'd just split a flat in 2 and called them bedsits -chancers :)

Oh the range! urm it heats the house up quickly, it went off for some reason the last day, and wouldnt turn on again, i dont know what happened!!i just tried it to see if it would come on again and it did!!so don't really need it on much, in the morning and a little while in the evening, have a feeling it's gonna cost alot in oil though!!!
if we had the open fire it would heat up the rads that way anyway, so it would be more convieniant (cant spell) and handy!!
Have it on a timer now too, once it gets to a certain tempreture it turns off, and im cooking my dinner on it now as we speak because i have no gas for the cooker!!
Steak and potatoes....yummm!!

How have you moved in without having to sign the lease first?
You can't be too picky when it comes to renting houses, especially as a new tenant. I would agree that it sounds like the washing machine needs replacing, which the landlord should do but if the carpet is clean and not actually damaged you don't really have a leg to stand on. As with the fireplace. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean they need to change it.
Having said that, we found our landlord very accommodating when we moved in and all the things that needed doing were done very quickly, including a new cooker on the day we moved in. If you plan on living there a while, you could approach him with an offer to maybe goes halves on a new carpet. We did that with a previous ll and she was more than happy with that.

I wouldnt ask my LL to do the fire for me, if he agrees ill get someone to do it myself!!
and the carpet was clean atall, it was manky and dicusting, the colour has come out a bit more now its been cleaned properly!!
The person i got to clean the carpets told me he cleaned them for my LL when the house was first done 15 years ago! and that they are the same carpets, they are badly faded! he also said its one of the worst he's seen.
