Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

finding this tough - have the name + changes + setter's 'help' [sw corner] but can't for the life of me get the link between these two words - and no idea at all for the other four words - any little hints would be greatly appreciated.

Hi bellabee, I think we got off on the wrong foot the other week. Sorry about that.

This takes a bit of lateral thinking. If you have the name think about spiltting it near the middle to see if it could represent something else. All the unclued entries are of the same form, so if you look up the six bold definitions in Bradford, if you have it, you might find words that will show you what's going on.

many thanks turnerjmw [ i am trying to be more discreet - feel free to remind me next time i get too close to the line] your hint has done the trick [although i haven't got bradfords] and i've found the teacher in brb - should all be plain sailing from here -thought this was very nice xword.

You're welcome. I also thought it was a very neat puzzle, and clever finish. By the way, it's only the Listener I feel strongly about in terms of hints, as the editors have made no secret of their dislike of them (they tried to ban threads here). I don't think it's unreasonable that there should be one puzzle that is a special case, and for which hints aren't given publicly at all (nothing, of course, to stop people communicating off thread). But I am aware that new people are joining these threads all the time and may not be aware of the history/context, so I should be more temperate. I'm always happy to help on Inquisitor and EV, assuming I can do them myself! Cheers

agreed the listener is a special case. i don't contribute to the thread as a rule but have been looking on for a couple of years now [after finishing] - if i'm really stuck or if something seems a little unfair i might get involved but i try to not to go beyond what is already hinted at in the preamble. i also agree that some contributions to that site go too far on occasion - although i have received some helpful nudges from the regulars, and as i don't contribute enough to it i can't justify giving my opinion really. this is my kind of puzzle though - all real words and a nicely linked theme - thanks charybdis.
