a letter has to be omitted and the remaining 7 rearranged into another word.

I have - ENTE-- before rearranging. (from 24A, 29A,34A,35A - i have not done 37A - any ideas?)

I've got brise, which is a ballet term for a jump (e-sir-b backwards). I've got the same letters as you for 22 dn.
Thanks Magistra

I like your suggestion of BRISE (BRAISE) which fits in well with the other answers such as 26D PASTELS (STALES) 36SLEAVES (SLAVES) etc and would lead to a word for 22 D possibly ending in - ENTERS such as CENTERS and if 18A ended in an 'S' the expanded word could be CRESENTS but am at a loss what this has to do with 'ninety units'.

Wilbo. I don't follow your reasoning! 18 ac doesn't coincide with any letters in 22 dn. "centiares" are units of some sort, but, like you, I can't get XC (90) into the word.
Have you got any letters placed in their correct positions?
Magistra I still haven't got 18a - - ar- but assumed it might end with 's' which would be the additional letter in 22d

Equally for 1d I have CIT - - AND FOR 2d AGA - -
Have only just got my latest copy of Cam, I believe the answer is centners. C for Charlie, enters with N for ninety inside. A centner is a unit. However I haven't completed very much else yet so not sure how to fit it in the grid. I didn't realise you had to rearrange the remaining letters once you'd taken one out so I need to have a rethink. I had just assumed it left centers taking the n out, but could well be wrong.
I agree with centers and believe it fits with : eddiCt, fishEyes, aspeNs,alTheas.curvEt and braise
