My son's newish X Box won't/can't read any discs - is this terminal? Is there anything we can do to sort it out (quite important with 2 weeks holiday coming up and the games he has asked Father Christmas for). I won't be able to try any solutions until he comes home from school tomorrow but would be grateful for any help. Thanks
The last one we had that went wrong had to be sent back to MicroSoft as it was over 3 months old (this is either 6 months or 1 year old) but we wont have the receipt now anyway. I was hoping there was something we could try at home to fix it as he is having games for it for Christmas and as he will be off school he will want to play on it. We had the other old one but gave it away in an act of generosity about 3 weeks ago!
there are places that will fix it, look in your local yellow pages, it could be the laser which they claim has to be repaired, it shouldnt cost more than 50-60 quid although that is a lot of money but better than scrapping it
I suspect that this link might do little more than duplicate the content of the one above but, just in case there's something extra, I'll provide it anyway:
http://support.xbox.c...dware/disc-drive.aspx
(I can't compare the information in the two links directly because the second one requires you to work through a wizard, answering questions as you go).
Halifax lad's Xbox played up the other week (it's almost 2 years old) - it couldn't read the discs at all - my solution = open the disc drive and give it a right good few blows (no rude comments please!) - it works fine now...!
Thanks Halifaxmum - my husband was going to do something to it but the poor sod is working all hours. I will try that tomorrow - Christmas without it will be a bit rubbish for him. We have got the oldest three that new thing but they will have to play it on the second son's x box as his room is bigger but oldest boy has x box related stuff for Christmas too! (I have thought about just buying another one.)
