Scanning photos

Please can someone tell me how to scan photos.  I have windows xp and an HP scanner/printer/photocopier and can't do it.  Everytime I've tried they appear on the screen and then disappear for ever.  Don't know where they have gone or where to find them.  Please tell me in easy terms.  Thank you.

Probably the easiest way is if you can find "Scanner and camera wizard" (it should be in Programs>Accessories if your scanner has been properly installed). Just fire it up and follow the instructions.

Thanks but not a lot of help.  That part is ok but what prog should I be one to see the scanned photos?  Have just scanned one, found it on HP director, then the computer went down.  Rebooted but now no photo!

Have you looked in your "My Pictures" or "My Scans" folders in  "My Documents"   on your desktop?  I had a similar caper initially.. then got a nice surprise ...they were all waiting for me..nicely dated..the lot!

With your system you should have an icon on your desktop saying "HP Photo Imaging Director". If not, it most certainly will be under All Programmes. Press this, and up should pop "HP Director". Press this and then look for "View and Print". Press this, and there should be all of your photographs !!

Neti, do you mean what software should you use?

Any printer I have I always use Irfanview because it's the easiest, but whatever you have click on File, then Open - and your photos should be under My Documents, My Photos or wherever you've placed them. Sometimes they do hide in sub folders and need a bit of finding though.

As you have XP use the Search facility. Just type in the name of your pic and the little hound will locate it.
