How do you stop French Toast (eggy bread) from going soggy?

I use thick bread dipped in a mixture of sugar, egg and milk.  I fry it slowly in oil.

My kids love it but as they take so long to eat (as kids do) by the time they are half the way through the toast has gone cold and soggy.

Is there another way of cooking it to avoid this???

Everything will cool if you take too long to eat it!!

Serve on a thick, high density plate that is HOT or even one of those small hotplates used for Chinese food. Cut the bread thinner and cook quickly- it will get eaten more faster.

Ohhhhh, i've not had eggy bread for ages., I just use beaten eggs and a pinch of salt, then dip the bread quickly into the egg mix and fry on a high heat.

Gonna have it for breaky in the morning.

Use thinner bread and fry it in hot oil quickly. It will be crisper and absorb less oil.
