Homemade toys for indoor cat

Large paper bags-like the ones from primark. They love to jump in them and 'hide'.
Mirrors-reflect light off them onto the wall or ceiling....my cat goes mental.

Ping pong balls in the bath - I have a friend who had a cat who loved playing in the bath (no water) with a couple of ping pong balls. It is not a quiet game and I would end up throttling my two.

Frankie has a plastic ball thing that dispenses cat treats as he rolls the ball around. However it is a hard plastic ball and makes quite a racket when being knocked against skirting boards and kitchen units at two in the morning.

As Barmaid has suggested - tin foil is a good toy or make a fishing rod type toy. Shine a thin beam light onto a wall. They are easily amused - well, Frankie is. Merlin is a lady and just sneers at Frankie when he is playing.

Merlin loves handbags - alas she is not a small girl and she has problems getting her ar5e into the bags. ;-)

String, pegs, balls, sprouts - anything which rattles or rolls!
One of my most successful toys was bought for No. 1 Son 11 years ago when he was a kitten, and is still going strong - a bendy bit of cane with a cord knotted to the top (ideally through a hole) and a bunch of feathers tied to the other end. You can have great games with your cat with that, chasing, fishing, jumping - OK you have to replace the feathers now and again! and this is the time of year for tinsel - there is nothing better than mum dragging tinsel across the floor for a puss to chase!

PS we also tie empty cotton reels on strong string round the banisters, dangling down just to floor level. Many evening we are disturbed by Rover playing cotton-reel on his own!

Frankie's favourite 'toy' is an armchair in the spare bedroom that he is dismantling.
He has managed to get the stuffing out of the sides of the chair and is now working on the back. Merlin isn't interested in helping him though. It keeps him out of trouble.

My daughter's cat just loves those coloured and sparkly pipe cleaners that you often get in craft kits for kids, he plays for hours with them!...............

LOL Mike, I must admit that I won a mini one of these in a raffle at an Ann Summers party - the cats thought it was brilliant, but being leather, they chewed it!

My two don't both much with normal toys, they have some of those sticks with dangly things and such but don't take much notice. Like people have said above, they love large paper bags like Primark ones or those heavier duty ones you can get in the supermarkets, boxes, sweet wrappers (I have a laminate floor and one of mine will skid around with a sweet wrapper for ages!). chasing me round for my dressing gown cord etc... One also has a slight obsession with tubigrips, turbitowels and tights!

My cat before loved the little balls you can buy, they are light and some have jngly things in them and he would chase them round for ages, throw them up and down etc... So many disappeared where he had pinged them out of sight, I must have found about 20 of them all over the place when I moved out!

Not really a toy as such but my two love their scratching post. Apart from the obvious they roll around it as it has a pompom on a string on the top.
