House buyers want to know our buildings insurer

We recently sold our house and the buyers have asked twice now for the details of who we had buildings insurance with. Is this usual?

I have told them the name of the company but am reluctant to release anything else as we have moved the insurance to our new house.

Ask them why they want to know.

Well you've told them the name of the company...what more do they want?

Maybe they just want to know how much you were paying so they can see if they are getting a good deal.

perhaps they are finding it hard to get an insurer or their new insurer needs details of any previous structural claims.

I cant see how giving them the name of your insurer will cause any problem

The only indication I have been given is that they want to continue the policy but this doesn't make sense as we have moved it on.

They can't do that as it's your policy.

It could make sense in the respect that your insurers will have prior knowledge of the property.............

(but not a lot of sense, really.)

But they'd still have to take out their own policy so having the name of the insurance company should suffice.

Yup..............I missed that bit out, didn't I ? :o)

What I meant was that if the new owners approach ABC insurers and ask to insure 23 Acacia Avenue.........ABC (having prior knowledge of the property) may be 'willing' to insure it at a preferential rate.

Perhaps 'that' is the line of reasoning ?
