My hubby has been diagnosed with a rare skin disorder which could take up to 3 years to clear (hope it's quicker - poor bugger is really suffering).

When GP did last certificate for him, she mentioned Medical Retirement.

He is 63 at the moment, if he took this retirement would he get his pension early?

Sorry for question, I have tried googling but there is so much to wade thro!!

Thanks

The Pensions Advisory Service might be a good place to start:

If he is in his employer's scheme he needs to ask at work. Employers/Schemes don't grant these things easily though as it's expensive for them and they need to be sure your husband will be unable to carry out any kind of work.
Is he completely unable to work for at least 2 years?
Has he exhausted his company sick pay?
... sorry if my reply seemed unsympathetic- I was just trying to seek information and set out my understanding. It doesn't sound a nice condition- I wish you both well.

Thanks for your replies guys.

He is already getting a small private pension. He only works part time and because of his age was not able to join the company scheme.

I was actually thinking of the state pension. Do you know if he could get that early?
I don't think so. Wouldn't it be some form of benefit he'd have to apply for.
Anyway, look on the directgov site
My friend had to leave work at 63. He gets pension credit and they pay his stamp until his retirement age. He also has a small works pension. Phone pension credits they are very helpful and nice people to deal with.
