burnt meringue :(

the reciepe says 40mins but it started burning in 10mins :(

can anyone help? never made one before, thought i try but failed :(

(i dont have electric whisk either, but the receipe says its fine)

I make them every year for Xmas and use Barmaid's recipe minus the cornflour and vanilla and use 8 eggs as everyone wants at least two each. 2 big blobs sandwiched with whipped cream. I love them chewy in the middle.

ohh i do luv the chewy ones inside, it always reminds me of melted marshmallows :)
