You hear the same old Christmas songs every year ...over and over again.
How much money do these artists make per radio play ?
Chap from mud was on radio today and said he does make so much money from royalties these days , due to internet downloads and people getting music for free.

Apparently Noddy Holder calls Merry Christmas Everyone his retirement fund, so it obviously still pays well.
they are probably making a small fortune out of it but I get bored hearing the same old christmas numbers year on year
Surely it can't just be down to nostalgia ?..............the fact that we don't seem to have had a memorable Christmas sing-along record in the chart for years .............?
I blame xfactor and manufactured music starting with stock, aitkin and waterman in the late 80s
I love the old Christmas pop songs, yep im the sad git who'll happily sing along to Slade, Shaky, Band Aid and Wizzard.
I know it's not Christmas music but I listened to an interview with Gerry Rafferty and I think he said he got 17p everytime Baker Street was played.

I read Shane MacGowan's biography and he said he got 80k a year from Fairytale of NewYork.
I'm singing with you B00 - we're the AB Singers.
Hi SIRandyraven, Not a Christmas song but I read earlier that Simon Neil who penned the song Matt from x-factor released made £30K from 40,000 of their own sales of the same song. Not bad eh?
Fairytale of New York and Silent Night for me.

Oh the weather outside is frightful.............
But the warmth inside's delightful.......
New xmas songs are cr@p, Coldplay the latest example, you can`t beat the old xmas songs to get you in the xmas mood

About 20 years ago Noddy Holder said he makes £50k a year from Merry Christmas Everybody
Back in 2003, BBC Radio 1 was paying £18.44 per minute of airplay to the PRS. So that was around £60 per single track. (I've heard figures of £80 per track for Radio 1, and £100 per track on Radio 2, quoted as current but I can't track down any exact figures). The amount that a recording artist from get from that would depend upon the terms of his contract with the record company.
