Why dont cats have wet noses like dogs?

It's simple - dogs have very wet tongues, so when they lick their noses, they wet them. A poorly dog will not lick it's nose, so its nose may be dry, but there is no direct corelation between a dry nose and illness in a dog. Some breeds such as pugs and some bulldogs have noses that are too high to be reached with their tongues, so their noses are always dry.

Cats also lick their noses, but their tongues are much drier, so less moisture is transferred to the nose, and it stays wet for a shorter time.

cats have wet noses to stick in your ear when they want you to wake up...followed by the rasping tongue on any bit they can get to and worst of all the paw in your mouth

Dogs and cats that lick theirnoses are pikers compared to a couple of cows we have here on the plac in the western U.S. They can lck their noses half-way up to their eyeballs. I've seen one actually put her tongue into her nose and clean out hay, small bugs, mice and the occasional passing child...
