Bread sauce

Has anyone any tips for a good bread sauce
My friend is coming for Christmas dinner and likes bread sauce. I've never made it and Granddad grump (the chef) hates it so wouldn't taste it for me

Any tips v welcome

in my opinion it's not worth the faff of making your own, buy a packet of colemans, it's really nice and, again in my opinion, better than homemade.

I agree ethandron and bread sauce lovers (like me) might not like a homemade one as we wouldn't be used to the taste, even if it's better.

yep, agree prudie.i love bread sauce and have tried lots of different ones over the years. i love it cold on a turkey and stuffing sandwich with a slathering of cranberry sauce and a few sliced up cold sprouts :o)

I agree with the last two posts. Making it up from scratch is a lot of trouble to go to for the amount that will end up being used.
I've always used the Colemans packets as well, cant go wrong with them.
The best bread sauce is to keep it simple I think.

sprouts just aint what they used to be. i remember when they tasted really sprouty, not the insipid excuse for a sprout they are now. i believe they engineered them to taste less sprouty and more acceptable, although it seems they didn't breed enough of the proper taste out for some people.
cold sprouts, a bit of salt, a pot of cold bread sauce, and maybe a cold sausage or two - supper heaven on christmas day :o)

Thank you all I have just made it using Delia's recipe and it is ok - I suppose - perhaps I should have gone with Colemans.

I'm with you on sprouts Prudie they are just wrong - and are the devils spawn!
