Transfering my itunes from my ipod to my new computer

Hi my old computer died along with all my itunes but i have 4 gigs worth on my ipod. thing is i can't work how to transfer the tunes from the ipod onto the new computer

can anyone help ??

I had the same problem last week, I got the blue screen of death and had it re-built. Thankfully my music was in my EHD, but I had few of tunes on my ipod I hadn't connected to itunes or stored in my EHD yet, but when I plugged myipod in my lappy it asked me if I wanted to transfer the tunes on the ipod onto the lappy.

Give it a go.

I don't have an ipod because I don't like the way it takes over your music collection, and I want to stick with my musicmatch, but surely it is just an external drive like any other. Plug it into your computer, and as well as transferring to, you pc can tellwhat is on it and you just transfer it back.

Postdog, the reason I would not use an iPod is precisely because it's not "just an external drive like any other". Apple in their wisdom decided that the average user was too thick to be able to drag and drop and organise their own computer and music, so imposed this incredibly dictatorial, bloated, and non-intuitive piece of software on their customers

Well, iTunes does work kinda well... and they were also right with what the average customer wants, given their success...

What to do:
Download ephPod:
http://www.ephpod.com/

That'll allow you to copy music from the iPod to the computer (iTunes doesn't like doing this).

Then, once the music is in some folder (for example on your desktop), run iTunes without the iPod connected. Add all the music to your iTunes library by dragging folder from desktop to iTunes. Click advanced -> consolidate library, to put it in the proper place. Remove music from desktop to recycle bin. Make sure all music is there and plays ok (and has same number of tracks as on iPod -- see settings, about on iPod to see track count).

And then connect iPod, and it'll resend all the music, but you shouldn't lose anything by doing this.

the reviewers on downloads.com say that ephpod can break your ipod - any other suggestions ?
