Yes indeed. My Dad found a £5 note in the snow where the snow plough had piled it up in the road. I also had a bad bout of tonsilitis and my ears went bad, I think we were walking back from the doctors when he found the £5. It was a lot of money in those days!

we would wake up clear some ice from the inside of the bedroom window and jump up and down with joy when we saw 6 inches of snow outside :)

I can only remember getting sent home from school once, and that was much later when I was about 13 so @ 1967 or 1968, and there was a blizzard. We were living here in Wales by then and we called our Welsh teacher "Chwanan" (it means flea) - she wasn't quite 4' 9". We were called to assemble in the Art room before setting off for home, and someone said come and look outside. I can see Chwanan even now, hanging onto a tree outside and her little legs blowing out to her side.
