Limewire pro is free of spyware, bearshare is full of it and limewire pro is a lot faster than bearshare. Ive used both!!

Limewire will soon start filtering its content to remove copyrighted material so dont even consider paying for limewire pro!

A good alternative is frostwire - its based on limewire but is open-source and completely free - thet don't offer a pay version!
