Criptic clues in a pairs quiz

Hey guys, I'm stuck on 2 criptic clues for a "pairs quiz", here goes....

1. Was punishment at school & one of man's inventions (5&5)

2. Kids enjoy them & Does door need oilcan? (6&6)

Would really appreciate any help x

Re q1 I thought there's a saying 'man invented the wheel' but I'm not impressed with 'stick' for punishment at school but it was the only word I could pair with wheel.
