can you be soul mates with someone if you don't love them/ they don't love you? And would it not work if only one loved the other?

<<<<I think (and indeed I know) that you can have close supportive friendships with people of the opposite sex without any romantic involvement.<<<

Thats because he´didnt fancy you OR you didnt fancy him.....it´s not rocket science.
Sometimes Sqad (as in my other post) you move past that.

We're still really close....he doesn't fancy me. I don't fancy him (never have actually)

But I don't even care that he doesn't love me and a proper relationship wouldn't work properly anyway and I think it would be better staying as friends then there won't be any chance of heartbreak.
Possibly sqad - we liked each other's company a great deal, had lots of common ground but completely different ways of getting there, we spent time together although we lived far apart - and all those years on, we can still make each other laugh. Both in firmly committed other relationships, too!
Would you still be his friend and not suffer heartbreak if he fancied/went out with another girl?
Prudie - you're on to something there.
Molly - you can't be just friends with someone you fancy.
I think you can have a person solely as a soul mate--- I have one, a guy , we met as ragged arsed bairns, went on different career paths , kept in touch , see each other perhaps 2/3 times a year.Have hugged together . cried together and laughed a lot over 30 odd years.Do I fancy him -- no , vice versa definitely no. He has been married for a lifetime , I have done that and got the Tee shirt, But we share ideals , hopes and crises, I would lay down my life for this person, and him the same .So yes it is possible.

Thinking about it now, did i actually fancy him? Maybe I was confused about my emotions cos I'd never met anyone like him before I never imagined doing 'anything' with him, I just had so much in common and liked him soo much that I wanted to be with him . . .
