MOWO awards anyone?

The poll on the sky news web site today asks if the MOBO awards are still relevant, well this got me thinking about racism, I mean there's no MOWO awards and the Loony Lib PC brigade would be up in arms if there where so why is it ok to have a MOBO movement without a MOWO movement but not the other way round?

I actually watched the MOBO aards (part of it) last night.  For comedy value do this...

1. Find one's mother (must be at least 50 years of age). 
2. Place slightly tipsy mother on sofa.
3. Switch on MOBO awards
4. Die of laughter as mother makes comments like "What sort of a name is that?"  "What on EARTH is she wearing that hat for?" "Why are they all talking at once?"

Admittedly I felt about 40 myself!  I realised that unless it's heavily in the charts, black music is something that, as a white person, I'd have to work pretty hard to 'get into'.  It's full of cultural references I simply don't understand etc.  I don't have a problem with that at all, but for me, if I want spoken word music, I'll stick to The Streets.  :-)

Actualy I meant the FIFPRO awards, but there you go. By the way, I don't think you grasp what the MOBO awards are: MUSIC OF BLACK ORIGIN. Black artists perform and win awards at the Brits, white artists perform and win awards at the MOBO's. The needs of other types of music are all covered by awards: country music, rock, classical, etc. The streets have won MOBO's (i think)

Such award ceremonies only exist so long as the organisers are making money and people watch them. The political right and wrongs must be also be viewed from this angle.

If people want to watch music awards of any origin so be it.
