Would the hanging deter?

Every day there are 4 or 5 reported murders, killings in the papers! there is no deterrent, should the hanging be reintroduced? if the person 100% guilty. & before the HR brigade kick off, I am not a sadist,

How were convictions for murder secured when a police woman was shot and killed by robbers in Bradford some years ago? The robbers didn't set out to kill.
Shouldn't they have been convicted of manslaughter?

I don't think it would be a deterrent. People who kill intentionally generally don't bargain on being caught.

BUT...if the robbers didn´t set out to kill, then why set out with a gun?

I suppose that the prosecution council argued the point that, as the gun was the murder weapon and as they set out with the gun, it was presumably argued, that they "set out to kill"............hence MURDER.

ummmm.....that weapon that you set out with, must be the murder when, as if it is not, then one would have a strong case for.....manslaughter verdict.

The "mens rea" or mental intent required for murder is either an intention to kill or an intention to commit serious injury. There has to be more than mere foresight that the act will result in death or serious injury; however, intention will be proved when death or serious injury is the almost certain result of the Defendant's actions. Thus firing a loaded gun at someone will almost certainly result in death or serious injury - thus murder can be made out.

I fully believe that they should bring back hanging. It is not a deterrent in any way but it means that they will not be able to re-offend and it is cheaper than keeping murderers and peodos in prison. This is especially true for people like Ian Brady and Ian Huntley as they are costing us a fortune to keep in prison.

in the case of those that torchure another human to death, or murder a tiny child, you can safely say it was intentional and with all the D.N.A type tests it can certainly be proved, but why hanging why not a lethal injection? tell them when it will be done and make them wait for it, I dont see why we have to keep the most vile creatures alive comfortable and well fed, after all we can't wake their victims up and say you can now carry on with your life, so why should the murderers be able to do that?

Defo hang the ones who; kill at random, kill a child, kill for pleasure, kill for gain (money etc). I would hate to think someone is executed for killing due to retaliation against torment, threat or violence. 100% guilty would seem ideal but I fear it would have many grey areas. In fact I think it'd be a nightmare to define.

Vibrasphere, the lass in Bristol had the right to live, her young life has been ended by a person or persons that, when sentenced will have whatever they want in prison, they can even sue the authorities that put them there in the first place, alike that Pratt Huntley trying to sue for the knife attack, every person has the right to go where they want & when they want, any elderly person has the right to do what they want & when they want that is, until life's dregs kills them for a couple of ££s I do understand regards "deterrent" yes, there have been errors in the hanging system but there has also been very big errors letting murders out on parole only to offend again & again, as regards the party! a lot of people think it & if it came to a vote! need I say any more.
