Ladies (or men) Do you consider yourself to be 'high maintenance'
34 Answers
Following on from the 'I hate shopping,' question it got me thinking. As the title suggests,do you consider yourself high maintenance? I often tell my OH how lucky he is. The only thing I ever spend my money on is a decent hair colour and cut and I always buy good shampoos and conditioners.
I've never had a facial, manicure, waxing, pedicure, spray tan etc etc. I rarely wear make up and don't buy expensive lotions and potions.
That said,I have done in the past (I'm 42) but now I'm happy in myself and think I've just decided I've got better things to do with my money and time.
How about you?

I like my hair and skin to look good and I'm fussy about clothes I like and make up I wear. However it i all paid for by me and would never expect anyone else to pay for my luxeries. They are things I indulge myself with as and when I can. I maintain myself and can sometimes be high maintenance in terms of what I will and won't compromise on.
My own opinions on high maintenance tend to run to people who are emotionally exhaustive to deal with rather than financial or material things however, so in that sense, no, I'm not high maintenance. You can just say no to someone demanding material things.... Someone demanding costant time and annoying the tits off you with their own issues is far more high maintenance to my way of speaking. (And generally not worth it!)

China.... I know what you mean. I have a friend who I don't see very often and I know why - every time I do, it is all a saga of woe about people I have no idea who they are and don't mind if I don't. I do try to avoid being drained by too-needy people although I do help when I can - but in the past to the detriment of my own well-being. Very hard when someone drags you down.
I think, as you get older, you begin to separate the important things from those that really don't matter. I do not 'do' shoes, make-up, clothes or any other of the myriad things that some women just have to have. Anything I do want that's more than necessary (like that Kindle I keep banging on about), I buy for myself.
Yes, I do drive a sports car - a fifteen-year old MR2 that he probably wanted more than I did - and I do love it but honestly, I'd be quite happy with something less glamorous. As it is, I put most of the petrol in and pay the larger part of any repair bills (because I'm the one who uses it the most), but he insures and taxes it.
No, I wouldn't say I'm high-mainentance.

I'm very low maintenance but as I live on my own with Lt Tiggs it doesn't really count. As I said on the "I hate shopping" thread I very rarely buy clothes, shoes, handbags and make-up and even rarer still do I go for a facial, manicure etc. My priorities have changed a lot over the years and I prefer to save what little money I have left over at the end of the month than use if for the items listed above and in this current financial climate I'd rather save than fritter.
