dress code for court

hi is there any sort of dress code for jurors? can they reject you dependant on your clothes?

It's been a long time since I did jury service(in Scotland). At that time I don't think it mattered, on day one several people turned up in working clothes as, if not chosen, they were then going on their place of work.
I expect unreasonable dress would be frowned on. Are you looking for a reason to get rejected?

I would imagine smart but comfortable would be best, the last thing you would want is to be fidgeting because something you were wearing was irritating you.

What ever you would feel comfortable going to work or doing the shopping in will suffice. They are after people who will listen and make a judgement on the facts given in court, not someone who wants to enter a fashion contest. I have done two lots of jury service and both times just dressed in my normal clothes so i would feel comfortable if stuck there for ages. As Daffy says, the last thing they want is juror's fidgeting around because of the way they are dressed. It can be bad enough keeping your concentration at times, without any distractions, if you get a bad case/prosecutor/defendant!!

thanks i am not trying to get disqualified. Mr bednobs is doing jury service tomorrow, and to be completely honest, i'm just trying to work out the likelihood he's going to ask me to iron a shirt!

lol.. tell him to do it himself!

if he didn't get a leaflet of do's and don'ts, he should wear what he likes.. but may stand out in a crowd if he wears something.. out of the ordinary ;o)

ta, We have an arrangement that he cooks, i iron shirts. Was just wondering about the possibility of saying "no darling, you need to wear a t-shirt" and whether that'll go down well

You could bite the bullet and while you do the cooking he could iron his shirt if he wants to wear one!!
