I ordered 2 diamond rings before christmas,they are ready for collection ,am i right in thinking that i still get them at 17.5% VAT.

depends when the store invoice them. They have to charge 20% if invoicing from the 4th onwards.

They may make an allowance (ie take a smaller profit) by charging you the same as was quoted but they still have to have the vat at 20%.

Your correct Redcrx,had to pay 20% has they received them on the 4th,
