do you know anything about guitars?

my son wants to buy a schecter hellraiser V1 hellraiser. It is very hard to come by and costs more than he can really afford.
Does anyone on here know of a similar guitar?
I don't know anything about them, except that he doesn't want a floyd rose (sp?) and something about the neck being long enough. I would appreciate any advice.
He's seen one on ebay in America, but I think it's too risky and would rather he bought one here.

cost will be dependant upon a number of factors, but as with many guitarists sometimes its all in the name. alternativley you can go for any schecter v1 without the hellraiser tag.

I've seen a matt-black Schecter ... if you want to spend the rest of your life looking at fingerprints, it's a great guitar. ;-)

Honest dings are a sign of a much-played and much-loved guitar (imo) ... greasy, unremovable fingerprints aren't ... lol

Dah - make him get a US Fender Stratocaster with upgraded pickups and a locking trem system.

I pushed a youngster into getting a Mexican Telecaster which he later upgraded with a nice Seymour Duncan pickup and locking trem system (which I put in for him).
He was hell-bent on getting some jaggy stupid looking overpriced metal-thrasher before I got at him. He still has it 3 years later and is happy with it.

Answerprancer makes a fine point, make sure he ends up with a guitar he'll still want in a few years time.

Also, he should be after a telecaster anyway - there is no better looking or sounding guitar.

I bought an american standard tele a while back and was shocked at the poor build quality.
The ferrules on the back all fell out first time I went to restring it, the tape on the bridge pickup wasn't wrapped around it properly, the tone control is wobbly, the black knob on the pickup switch came off, and the black dots on the fretboard have faded strangely.
(still love it though)
Anyone else had a similar experience?

He has a gibson and saved up for two years to buy his beloved dean razorback.
He i in a metal band and needs this latest one for gigs.
He is only 16 and has to stick to a tight budget - poor student you know!
