Elderly very Vocal cat
7 Answers
Hi everyone, My old cat vincent is nearly 17..he is one of the few loves in my life. he has always been a chatty wee guy, like manyothers on this site, i have had many a conversation with him, however...I dont know if its his age or what but over the past year or so he constantly meows very loudly when we are at home if we make eye contact with him. I left my phone on record when I went out and he never made a sound..wee devil....lol...He gets lots of attention and love and cuddles.
Also he has started to randomly attack my dog if she walks past him or dares to jump onto the same couch as him. they have been living happily together for 7 years now.
He has a visit to the Vet and is physically fit so any ideas whats the problem. Or is he just getting old...

when you think that at 17 years old, they are roughly 85 years old, then maybe its just getting old disease. Just love him and cuddle him as you do, and enjoy him.

aaah bless. He sounds like a right character!
it may be that in his old age he is going a little bit doollaly (like we humans do) and his brain is going a bit!
My old girl disappeared at the age of 18 and everyone said she had gone away to die.... I found her 2 weeks later in a different road (in someones garden) and she lived another very happy 3 years with me!!!!
Think she had just got confused one day and got lost!
They are funny little things eh!

My older cat will be 19 in March and she's losing it! She hasn't got the stage of being distressed - I wouldn't let her go on if she was. She is deaf now and very vocal - in fact she doesn't stop when I get home from work. She gets a bit confused but still likes to play and enjoys her food and cuddles. My vet told me that animals are living so much longer these days due to more awareness and better health care which is why we see things like dementia.
Your pal is an old man and you just have to make allowances for him

Not an answer but we have a similar 18 year old female cat who has become very demanding and vocal. Has been to the vets and no problems. She eats well and chases birds, still jumps up on our bed (after a good vocal session!) will sit and shout at us until she gets more food! She never did this until about 6 months ago. I guess as with the other answers she is getting a little forgetful.
