Comments have been made in a crossword post referring to The Times
Crossword Club - I am not a member and it puzzled me as to how things work when
entries are made online. Are you told if your entry is correct when you enter?
If you are, can you then submit a second, amended, entry?
Explanation please.

When you submit your entry you are then presented with an option to either submit to the leaderboard or not. The stats only list the first 100 people who submitted to the leaderboard. > Are you told if your entry is correct when you enter?

No.
After you have submitted your entry on-line you can click on to a feature called stats ad a list appears
and your name will be highlighted and be informed if you have submitted a correct entry or how many mistakes you have made. This is just about instant after your submitted entry.
When you submit your entry you are then presented with an option to either submit to the leaderboard or not. The stats only list the first 100 people who submitted to the leaderboard. I select "Submit without leaderboard" as I don't care how long it took me and only wish to enter for the prize. If I want to see how I did, I can immediately click on "My Profile" and it shows my result. It usually shows 600 for a correct entry. If there is an error then it'll show something like 580 but I still have to wait for the solution to be published---obviously since there is a prize. As to the second part of your question, the answer is no. I have already submitted an incorrect entry for ST4414 and if I select it to play again, it says my entry has been successfully submitted and there is no option for a re-submission.

Many thanks for all answers - I understand a little better now, although "leaderboard"?
is that some sort of speed of solving rating?
Yes, the Leaderboard lists the top 100 people's times for that crossword. There were some fantastic times in the beginning as people were printing the crosswords, like I do and completing them off-line. Then they just typed the answers in and achieved a time of how long it took them to type---not solve it. Changes were made--like the "submit without leaderboard" and some others. There's still people bypassing it though--probably buying the paper first. Personally I don't care about my times--it's being able to complete it that matters.

Thanks again, Taylor -
I agree that it does seem a bit silly to rate people for their speed in submitting their entries.
Best of luck with your entries.
In fact, for the Times Club Monthly you can only obtain this from the club and so sensible times are recorded which confirms that there are some, as you say, silly people, buying the crossword, then completing it online in silly times, such as two minutes. I can only imagine that they buy the crossword to do this, but there may be some who have two memberships, or are in cahoots with someone else. The time starts the moment that you access the crossword and either do it online or print it off to do it. Score is 600+ if all correct. Points are also gained on time, up to one hour for normal and two hours for Jumbos, I think. Sometimes I've got one wrong and when I then check it is usually a silly typo and too late to change. Annoying.
