My maiden name was Smith, which my vicious French teacher delighted in translating to Schmidt, which she would spit out with venom in front of the whole class. It backfired, however, when my friends began to use it as a rather more friendly nickname, and the next time the 'vache' used it, the whole class dissolved into giggles.
