Bowen's Disease
8 Answers
Anyone here have it or know anybody that has it?
My wife has problems with the skin on the calves and shins and a friend has suggested it could be Bowen's Disease. She is seeing the doctor on Thursday and I think it has made her anxious.
Could somebody with personal knowledge of this describe the symptoms?
Her lower shin is very rough to touch (cheese grater) and is sometimes sore for her. At times it is red and looks sore. She has 'lesions' that don't heal completely, bleed occasionally and each is surrounded by discoloured, darker skin. These lesions are on her shin and calf and vary in size from flea bite size to larger than a 5p piece. She currently has two large lesions on the shin and one large one on the calf, and 7 small lesions on the shin. She is in her early 50s.
Any help is appreciated.
She has been leaving it alone to no avail; slathered E45 for two weeks or more and still it is dry and rough.

Description:
Buenchico has given you the link.
An "old term" now not commonly used, but would describe a pre malignant skin condition of the nipple or breast.
Can affect any part of the body skin.......can also be confused and misdiagnosed unless diagnosed by a Consultant Dermatologist.
For more in depth information then see the link above.

I have just read the latter part of your post and the part of my post, for which I apologise, didnt come out for some unknown reason.
Your description of your wife´s skin condition is not typical of any common skin disorder and needs the expertise of a Consultant Dermatologist.
I would have thought that Bowen´s Disease is a "rank outsider" but I would be interested to know of the diagnosis on Thursday.
