Is there known syndrome for someone unable to be quiet?

My father, recenty has adopted the habit of not being able to be silent for more than a minute. He has to incessantly whistle, hum, sing or tap his fingers and I do mean constantly. I just wonder if it something that anyone else has experienced, help is required before my sanity is completely shattered!

Oh pitsop, I have exactly the same problem. My partner is constantly tapping his fingers, fiddling with the tv remote, clicking his tongue, humming (tunelessly). He is driving me mad! On top of this, he finds silence quite difficult so our TV is on 24/7. I call it HWSTFU syndrome. "He won't shut the **** up". If you get a cure (that doesn't involve a shot gun) please post it here!!!!!

It's probably something he's always done but it's recently started to annoy you to the extent you notice it.

Just a thought pitstop - my chap has 40% hearing loss and tinnitus - wonder if the two are related?

My mother is damn noisy... She also wears a hearing aid, maybe there's a link!

Dad is supposed to wear hearing aids but doesn't, does seem a link there.

my husband has always had facial and other tics. If he was sitting reading a book quitely he would not be able to be quiet or still, his tics would come to the fore, either moving his head, making little noises or stretching his neck. He has always had them since i've known him and i've either always just thought of them as tics or a veery mild form of tourettes

has he got something on his mind recently...could it be a sign on him fretting over something...the way some people pace, fiddle with worry beads, stress toys etc etc?

perhaps something he hasnt told you about...?

is he old? maybe hes just having a wobble about getting older...

Joko, he's 68 in a week or so and found out last year his best friend has cancer and only about a year left to live, so maybe his own mortality is worrying him. May make some subtle enquiries!
