'Strengths' is usually quoted as the answer, but that's just because it has only one vowel as well as only one syllable. There are others such as 'scrunched' or 'stretched', also with nine letters.

North Americans would also pronounce 'squirrelled' with one syllable, though it doesn't quite work in standard spoken English.

I like the joke, Paul...typical Sayle...but the brain-bucket just appears to be bottomless. We keep hearing, don't we, that we rarely use more than about 5% of its potential?
