I have a 2007 Ford Fiesta - today the radio/cd turned itself to 'PHONE' - no sounds came out and I could not turn it off by pushing the volume button. This was intermittent.. There are no buttons to choose the 'PHONE' mode can anyone assist on why this happens, and how I can stop it... Many thanks for reading..

Something is activating the mute facility which interrupts the sound from the radio/cd player during a call on a handsfree device which is routed through the audio wiring of the car.
If you bought the car second hand there may be, unknown to you, a kit installed that has developed a fault or the radio has started to go the way of all things.
I have had similar faults before. There is a mute wire at the rear of the set. check it's not touching anything.

I'll tell you which one it is shortly when i check my paperwork.
