Naming a house

We are about to move into a house that has a number, but no name. If we want to give it a name, who do we have to tell?

Royal Mail need the number because it's part of your 'unique location' (i.e. Your house number + your postcode = your house and nowhere else). It's also a legal requirement to continue to display the number clearly on the front of your house.

As all have said,you can add a name to your numbered address, but what are you going to choose?
Where my mum lives, there are no street names or house numbers, every house is known by its name eg;
The Falling Down Cottage,
Village Name,
Postal Town,
Postcode
So she would have some difficulty changing the house name.
Perhaps when I retire I shall buy my country cottage and call it DunAnswerBankin' ? What do you reckon?
