DVDs and players....

I have just sent a pressy to some child relatives in Seattle - a dvd purchased from Amazon. I have just realised though, that their dvd player over there may well be incompatible with this dvd. It is a zone 2 dvd, if that's the correct terminology - I understand, belatedly, that Seattle is in zone 1.

Is this present therefore useless? Or do you think Amazon over there will swap it for them?

The are codes which are readily available that allow most (probably all) DVD players to play discs from other regions. They can be found by doing an online search. I can't remember which website I found best when I looked for mine but all I do is enter a 5 digit number using the remote whilst the disc door is open, it's that easy.
do a search for something like 'dvd unlocking codes'
The NTSC (their TV format) VS PAL (our TV format) is likely to be more of a problem than the region, which as bibble says can probably be got round.

And, sorry but, no Amazon USA won't swap an item bought from Amazon UK, they are essentially separate companies.
But my dvd player and tv can use both PAL and NTSC - is that capability not available on equipment over there?

Darn - as well as being the wrong dvd region, there might be an additional problem in that it is actually a tv series dvd (Outnumbered) rather than a film.

Oh well, it's the thought that counts....
Mother is very well versed in techo stuff - she is very high up in Microsoft, maybe she will know a way round it with unlocking codes or something.

anyway, thanks guys x
Bibble, it's the same as here, some DVD player/TVs will play both, but not all of them.
I assumed that dual PAL/NTSC machines were standard since what I have now (and had previously) were just ordinary purchases, I didn't go out of my way to buy anything special.
