Experience of Migraine, anyone?
24 Answers
My 15 yr old son was diagnosed with Abdominal Migraine a couple of years ago. The Doc prescribed Co-Dydramol for when he's suffering and said it was quite common at that age. He has been fine last few months. Today he has been sent home from school with a "Proper" migraine and the Teacher said this is usual progression from Abdominal migraine.
Does anyone know if they can be kept at bay? Or is it just treating with painkillers when they are present?
Thanks Everyone xxx

I was prescribed a tablet called propanolol which is a beta-blocker but i find it is the best medication for migraines I've been on these for 3 years now and haven't had a bad migraine (where i go numb or black out) since i first started taking them and if i miss a dose i start to feel my face go numb so i know i have to go and take them. Not all cases are as bad as mine but asking your GP about a medication that would be suitable will be the best option because at the age of 15 its scary GCSE time and it could be the stress from exams/upcoming exams that has triggered this migraine off and from experience migraines during exam time are the worse because the more i revised and got stressed about a certain subject the worse they got but now I'm in uni and doing exams i don't get them as long as i keep taking my medication.

Thanks a lot Gemma1991. That's a lot of help with things to look out for. He is only just 15, but is taking Maths GCSE this March. He is generally a very laid-back character though. It does look as though there can be many different causes and treatment and may be some trial-and-error. Thanks for your help. Glad you seem to be in control of yours now. Much appreciated xxx
My granddaughter has suffered from cluster headaches for a couple of years, she's 15 now, had brain scans and tried several painkillers. This has now been diagnosed as migraine, she has to take a beta blocker and ibruprofen, I hoped that she would grow out of this. I hate the thought of her having to take the ibroprofen as my doc wouldn't prescribe them for me as they cause stomach bleeding.
