Thanks mintyman.
Is there not an error in the solution to 1995? For 31dn. (Excitement as men fell over) I submitted FUROR. I would be surprised if JUROR were correct. Are others in agreement?
I submitted FUROR as well Ironie on the basis of wordplay FUR over OR.
as you say It is difficult to see any justification for JUROR
specie does seem to publish misprints occasionally in answers - I am aware that they have in the past printed a 'draft' version of the crossword's (solution) than the one finalised with the setter if you get my drift.
Could I have some help with 36a please?
Clue is "Policeman stopping internal visit" - I have IN?L?C? if my letters are correct
in(flic)t
Thank you drb - never heard of flic for policeman before.
Forgot to add thank you MM99 (as usual).
much appreciated.
some nice little clues in there I thought.
Thanks K and Mintyman. Looking forward to this though my concise ODQ may let me down.
Thank you again Mintyman. Another enjoyable Thursday solving another interesting Spectator puzzle. I agree that 1995 31 down should be FUROR. That is what I submitted. If it's wrong I'll concur with Father Jack's contributions to the 34 Ac row of the current puzzle!
flic is French slang for a policeman, usually a detective.
All done but for 1ac: SH?U?
Has anyone been invited to the 2000th party yet?
1 across: SHTUM
Thanks Cruciverbals, I was indeed stumped.
Many thanks for the link. Hope to attempt this over the weekend.
