Linking to a remote computer

From here in France l need to link up to, and control a UK based computer.
I use XP and the other computer has Vista installed. The free version of RealVNC looks really good but l don't want to download it to both if it doesn't work because of OS problems.
Has anyone used this program before or is there a better solution?

Windows comes with Remote Desktop Connection built in.

However I dont think it is included in the "home" versions.

There are other solutions which are free but, as with all things, you (don't) get what you (don't) pay for...

VHG - Yep, not included on Home (dammit).
Mark - Interesting link. 30 day trial eh, but l'd only need it for five days max.
Will have a look at this and just download one or t'other. The only thing that can go wrong is it wont work.

I support clients in UK, US and Canada (from Greece).
Always used to use PcAnywhere.
For most of them now, I use LogMeIn. This gives me full control over their XP, Vista, Win7, Server 2003 and Server 2008 machines, and is a total breeze to use.

I'll add another vote for logmein, the free version will give you basic remote desktop and works very well.

+1 for LogMeIn. Easy to use and never had a hitch with it.
