When they announce the results of the lottery on BBC1, the guy always says "Early indications are that there are -- winners". Could be different each week, but the point is, why don't they say straight off how many winners there are? Camelot must know more or less straight away. Why the delay?
Incidentally, in the early days of the lottery, when it used to be done in Manchester, a couple of my mates were in the audience and when the draw was made, there was a guy stood behind the draw machine, rolling the winning balls down the tube, but on telly you couldn't see him. What do you make of that? They asked about it but were told they were mistaken. Fiddle!

Would such a big company make such a huge potential legal mistake with hundreds of random witnesses about?
That sounds unlikely to me re the ball-rolling, it's all done under very strictly controlled conditions (they say).
I would have thought they knew numbers, but perhaps they know how many winning tickets but not in which categories (i.e. 3 numbers, or jackpot)?
