If both parents have blue eyes,can their baby have brown eyes?

I guess I don't but according to this chart I must do lol... Besides, as I said, my father has brown eyes and youngest sister has blue so it clearly can't always be that the brown gene is dominant. She also inherited dads weird teeth so we know she's his!

No... I think you might have to delve in to science and ask the question and see if theprof is around... I think he is something to do with biology... Or equally one of the other science bods that may not find their way to family.

It is perfectly possible for parents with brown eyes to have a blue eyed child - just not the other way around. I would guess both your parents have a blue and a brown gene each. This would give them brown eyes themselves as brown is domainant in the same person. But "dominant" does not mean it is more likely to be passed on. They have obviously passed on their blue gene each to your sister and so, she has blue eyes.

My sister studied it at Uni. She explained it like...blue eyed people have their genes on show by the colour of their eyes. That's it, the only have the blue gene. Brown eyed people have their genes hidden. So they can be carrying the blue eyed genes or the brown eyed gene.

So brown eyed people can have either colour child but blue eyes can only have a blue eyed child because that's the only gene they have to pass on.

But China...didn't you say your Mum had blue eyes?

Yes but that's what the chart shows, it takes in to account not just your parents eyes but other genes you might be carrying as browns hide their genes but not blues... Hence this 'phenomenon' of blue eyed parents having brown eyed genes. I think it's the grey that screws it all up

We have it nice and easy. My sister has my Mums eyes but looks like my Dad. I have my Dads eyes but look like my Mum.

My neighbours both have browny/hazel eyes but have two children with the bluest of eyes I have ever seen. I know it is genetically possible, but it is strange that they both have blue eyes - both kids are the spit of their dad btw.

I have blue eyes and have blue eyed parents - I am the youngest of 7 blue eyed kids (all different shades of blue) my hubby has hazel eyes (blue eyed mother and brown eyed father) My eldest is blue and youngest has an indescribable colour - not blue or brown or green or hazel or grey!! Weird really. In pairs in class, they had to write down the colour of the other persons eyes and hair. Poor chap next to him was so confused that he called the teacher over, but she couldn't decide either!

My eldest also has one eye with a brown mark in the blue iris - would he therefore have the brown gene somewhere?

I don't look much like either but similar to aunts. Middle sister has dads colouring but looks just like mum. Baby sister has mums colouring and has dads features. I think genetic stuff is just damn complicated!

I've always thought as ummmm has said- Any other colour eye with blue can generate any colour. But two blue eyed parents can only generate a blue eyed child. I remember the biology lesson well :o)
This has certainly worked so far for us. Both me and the hubby have very blue eyes, as do our two daughters.
