The Wild Geese

I'm looking out of my south facing window watching geese in their V formation flying east to west. It was only a few weeks ago that formations were flying west to east.
Is their return a sign of an early end to winter or have I slept through to the end of February?

Central belt jomifl. between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

It's only 3 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh.............I know, I've seen the road signs !

Hi douglas.. I would imagine that the geese are just flying back and forth (firth of) between feeding grounds and their roosting area. If they were migrating they would go north or south but could equally go east or west to avoid flying over the mountains. what I am trying to say is .. I don't know

I think that they must all be male geese and they are lost - and they won't stop and ask for directions. Typical males!

I am in the central belt (Perth) so I will look out for them. ;-)

Anyway if you're looking out for the geese they were flying in a V and I noticed at least one of them was grey, hope that helps. :D

They may have passed over when you were not able to see them, on their way to feeding grounds

I never thought of Perth being 'central' but I do loads of On-line Surveys and they seem to segment our magnificent country in a strange fashion. So - they say I am in the central belt and I just go along with it.

I saw some geese earlier but there wisnae a grey one. ;-)

We get geese flying over us in Sheffield. They are usually in transit from Morcambe Bay to the Wash, going to & from the feeding grounds. They are usually pink footed geese, but sometimes we get a skein of greylags over.
